Project 1: Adoption of International Codes Council (ICC) Model National Code language for use by code officials in the permitting of hydrogen infrastructure

Progress by end of 2006

With guidance from the project team, the National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM) proposed code amendments to clarify certain permitting issues to the 2006-2007 cycle of the International Codes Council. Not surprisingly, none were accepted by the technical committees – participants in the I-Codes have not been educated on the issues. These proposals will be decided in May 2007 at the ICC’s Final Action Hearings at which time code officials alone may vote. NASFM has asked that this Task Group review all hydrogen-related code proposals in the current cycle, and make recommendations to NASFM’s Model Codes Committee which, in turn, will issue recommendations to the Safe Buildings Coordinating Committee, a project conducted cooperatively with the National Council of State Building Codes and Standards (NCSBCS).

2007 Deliverables

  • NASFM will again ask for HELP’s guidance in the next ICC code cycle, which will begin in the 3rdQ07.
  • HELP participation in a joint building and fire code workshop to be sponsored by NASFM and the National Council for State Building Codes and Standards (NCSBCS) in 3rdQ07.
