Project 3: American National Standards Institute Code Development
In early 2006, HELP applied for and received accreditation from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). ANSI coordinates the development and use of voluntary consensus standards in the United States and represents the needs and views of U.S. stakeholders in standardization forums around the globe. ANSI oversees the creation, promulgation and use of American National Standards (ANSs) through the accreditation of procedures used by standards developers and the approval of standards as ANSs.
As an ANSI accredited standard developing organization, HELP can help to serve an important public interest function in devising standards to help facilitate the construction and maintenance of the infrastructure required for a safe and orderly transition to hydrogen and other alternative fuel sources. The ANSI process ensures that there is an opportunity for all those who are interested in and affected by these standards to participate in their development. Due process is given to ensure that standards are developed in an environment that is equitable, accessible and responsive to the requirements of all of the various stakeholders.
In 2007, HELP will begin the process of Adoption of “placeholder” standards to provide guidance to state and local code officials while the Model National Codes are being amended.
2007 Deliverables:
- HELP decisions on the “placeholder” standards proposed in 2006.
- Additional “placeholder” standards developed and proposed.
